I overdid it last weekend with a long afternoon rollerblade. Lots of fun, but a week and a half later my hips still aren't thanking me. I spent a few hours yesterday floating around my parents' pool. Weightlessness felt awfully nice.
I'm restless at work. This is, in part, because of my hip - I'm not really down with spending eight hours in a chair these days. I've been making lots of trips to the printer and down the street to Starbucks, and have left early a few times so that I could finish work lying down. I haven't told anyone why; "I'm leaving because it hurts to sit" would necessitate some sort of an explanation, whereas "I've got to run to an appointment" is suitably vague. Thank goodness I work in a flexible office.
I'm looking forward to school in a few months. I know I'll be busy, but school-busy has always treated me better than work-busy. I'd rather have piles of reading and writing that I can do from home - even from bed if I need to - and with short breaks than have to spend eight or ten straight hours at a desk or in meetings.
I'm currently house-sitting for a relative. Last night I slept for three hours because there was a cat on me (and when I tried to shut the door on him, he howled). I'm working on a cat contingency plan for tonight.

I'm sorry you're having to pay such a high price for a few hours of fun, Helen, and I hope the hip-pain goes sooner rather than later. As for the cat, perhaps you can convince it to lay across your hips. There's nothing like cat-warmth on a sore joint (as long as the cat does its part and goes boneless and mostly weightless, and you're not allergic...)
Will you continue to work while you're in law school, or will you be putting all your time into school along (a big enough task for anyone!)?
Thinking of you. Feel better!

It sucks that we have to pay for having normal fun now. My right hip hurts me (odd that the left one doesn't join in, but I'm not complaining) and the hot tub helps considerably. I will continue to ride my motorcycles as long as I can. The way I see it, once I give "fun" up, then I have allowed RA to win.
Hope you get to feeling better soon.
Well at least you have a happy memory to think about when your hips are hurting. So much better to have a happy memory when you hurt than nothing at all.
House sitting? How fun. Enjoy yourself. Maybe they have some hidden chocolate somewhere. That always makes me feel a little better.
Hi I found your blog on the links on rheumablog's page. Glad I did! I have dr Big Chief and Dr Fly-by-night to contend with here! the cat thing made me laugh- sometimes our cat gets onto my husbands chest and eye balls him which is fine until he wakes up!Floating about in a pool sounds like heaven. I have just stopped atenalol my heart is fast but, not uneven which seems to mean my drs dont mind that much! When you get chance stop by my blog and you can "meet" Mrs Titantic as well.
Thanks for the lovely comments, everyone.
Wren - I am not planning to work full-time but I do hope to continue to do a bit of freelance writing for the company I'm with now. It would be nice to have a little extra income without having to haul myself into an actual office. My hope is that I can do the majority of my school-work and any other work from home.
I must admit, my anti-cat plan included nothing more than popping a sleep aid so I could sleep through his antics. It worked!
